STRENGTHENING FAMILIES TOGETHER

Welcome to STRENGTHENING FAMILIES TOGETHER. We are glad that you have found us. We are a group of families who share a common experience. We all have someone we love who has been diagnosed with a serious and persistent mental illness. We know the devastation of the illness on the person we love, on ourselves, on our entire family. We know what you are going through and we are here to offer you help.

STRENGTHENING FAMILIES TOGETHER is more than a program. It is the coming together of thousands of families and primary caregivers to help each other deal more effectively with the devastation caused by a mental illness. Through STRENGTHENING FAMILIES TOGETHER, these primary caregivers are offered:

A ten week course covering:

  • Introduction to the program
  • Facts about Psychosis
  • Psychosis - causes and treatment
  • Coping as a family
  • Self care
  • Communication
  • Living with psychotic illness
  • Recovery
  • Advocacy & understanding the mental health system
  • Wrap up

An on-going support group available to any family member or primary caregiver for as long as it is needed.

Please Note about the current session:

Strengthening Families Together is an ongoing 10 week course. It is being held at 130 Duke Street (Chatham), Tuesday night 6:30 - 8:30. Course begins February 23, 2010.

Your Recovery Journey

Your Recovery Journey is based on the experiences of people who have a mental illness and who know there is hope, who are well and doing the things they want with their lives.

The program offers five free interactive weekly sessions, each ninety minutes long, and all facilitated by people in recovery who can give you valuable information that will help you on your recovery journey. You'll also learn how to find peer support and build new life skills.

The program is designed for any person with mental illness who would like to find support and explore different aspects of recovery. Using a variety of formats, including presentations, interactive exercises, and structured activities, the program guides participants towards their goals of establishing and maintaining wellness.
